Twenty years after co-founding the LTPAC HIT Collaborative, John Derr, RPh received the Collaborative’s first Emeritus member designation. A consistent, vocal advocate for the work we do at the Collaborative, John has been instrumental in ensuring that the LTPAC sector has had representation with our federal partners, especially with the leadership of the US Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) Office of the Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy/ Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ASTP/ONC).
In 2004, HHS Secretary Tommy Thompson asked John to coordinate long term care health information technology’s involvement in what would be the strategic planning work of the newly forming ONC. A few years later as the focus turned to developing health IT standards, John joined the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT), which was the first recognized certification body for electronic health records and their networks. Later John served on the CCHIT Board and was appointed to the key federal committees established to advise the ONC.
For more than two decades, John has been instrumental in representing LTPAC with Federal agencies and multiple associations. His life’s work centers on the intersection of clinical and health information technology - a resounding theme of the myriad articles and books that he has authored, which are featured on his website.
The Collaborative is proud to designate John Derr, RPh as Emeritus Member & Founder of the LTPAC Health IT Collaborative and we are grateful for his ongoing leadership.
