Shelly Spiro, RPh, FASCP, Recognized as the 2024 NCPDP Champion
The LTPAC Health IT Collaborative applauds the National Council for Prescription Drug Programs (NCPDP) for recognizing Shelly Spiro as their 2024 Champion. A member of the LTPAC Health IT Collaborative since its inception in 2005, Shelly is the Executive Director of the Pharmacy HIT Collaborative and President and CEO of Spiro Consulting.
The award, which was announced during NCPDP’s Annual Technology and Business Conference, recognizes outstanding accomplishments or work that improves patient care. In addition to her contributions to quality care, Shelly’s leadership on pharmacy informatics has been instrumental in shaping health IT policy and standards development in projects such as the Pharmacist eCare Plan. Her work on the new Standardized Medication Profile supports accurate communication during transitions of care, benefiting patients and clinicians alike. Shelly consistently brings policymakers’ attention to the unique health IT issues the LTPAC sector faces. For example, while serving as President of the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP), she advanced policy that emphasized the importance of pharmacists as a part of a patient’s healthcare team and the need to integrate health IT with pharmacy.
We at the LTPAC Health IT Collaborative are delighted that the federal government also recognizes Shelly’s extraordinary expertise having invited her to co-chair the 2023 Pharmacy Interoperability and Emerging Therapeutics Task Force. Currently, Shelly continues to champion pharmacy, health IT and LTPAC issues as she serves on the Health IT Advisory Committee’s (HITAC’s) Interoperability Standards Workgroup that informs policy for the HHS Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC).
